Elvish Lifestyle in a Modern World - Clothing

When we think of Elves we might think of the beautiful dresses and robes, grand halls, breathtaking landscapes that were seen in LOTR or The Hobbit. All those things seem so wonderful that one might feel overwhelmed in wondering how to bring such things to the Modern World.

Once you clear your mind and relax it will start to become clear exactly how one might achieve such a thing. First let us consider what kind of clothing would be befitting of an Elf in the modern world... You can find more elaborate and beautiful clothing, the Celtic style works wonderfully, even the Viking style of clothing works well for those that are more Wood Elf and less High Elf, but they work if you wish to look and feel like the Elves of Middle earth or even Valinor.

Lets now say that you want to be a modern elf and less an elf in the modern world, that too is achievable with a little know how and a little thought. Elves by nature are elegant creatures, so perhaps a pair of nice dark material pants or dark jeans with an elegant looking shirt. I personally have a nice earthy green skirt, earthy green tank top, and a earthy green sweater that I will often wear with a nice Celtic knot ring and a simple elven circlet. The outfit is completely modern looking but when put together with the circlet and ring it all but screams elf, though I believe it is is more to the high elves than the wood elves, this is in part to it being a bit nicer than some of the other things I would wear. One piece of advice from my dear friend Mariel is to layer if it isn’t too hot! Layers, especially flowy layers, can really make an outfit more elven.

Wood Elves are less formal than the High Elves and would be less likely to wear elegant or dressy clothing, settling on other outfits like a simple earthy green Tee with a pair of shorts or jeans and those ear jewelry that makes ones ears look pointed like an elf, a circlet if you'd rather, or even a necklace or bracelet that has an elegant or rustic touch to it.

If you want a more defined waistline, putting a nice belt over the top can achieve that. I also recommend tunic/leggings/boots if you are someone who likes the feeling of a dress and also want an easy to wear on the go outfit. Short skirts and tunics will nearly always feel more wood-elf than high-elf. Greens and grays, browns, etc., often feel appropriate and elven. Other than showing your elf side the one thing I like to make sure everyone knows is that you should be comfortable no matter what you choose to wear.

Elvish Lifestyle in a Modern World - Jewelry

What comes to mind when you think of Elven jewelry? What words would you use to describe it? Breathtaking… elegant… stunning? Well let's talk about that.

When thinking of Elven jewelry we often think of how breathtaking and elegant some pieces can be. Jewels and gold or other precious metals that often make up pieces that could easily be called stunning. A way to make any modern elf seem elegant or if you are more to the masculine side, handsome or attractive.

There is so much to this that one might feel overwhelmed in wondering how to bring such things to their life and the Modern World.

Jewelry, to me, is easier. You can use it as an accent piece or it can be the main focus with the rest of your attire being the background so that it will stand out like the full moon against a dark night sky.

That said one must keep in mind how important jewelry is to an Elf, it must fit the Elf's personality as it is a physical representation of who they are.

Rings, bracelets, necklaces, and circlets… even charms. All are important no matter what kind of Elf you are, no matter if you want to dress traditional or modern. Each and every piece worn is a representation of ones self, so let us start with something simple.

Rings, they can be for any finger or even on a chain around your neck. They can be large or small, slim or thicker banned. Silver, gold, platinum, one stone or many. It's your choice on what you feel represents you, what makes you feel complete, so do not let any one tell you any different.

Bracelets, like rings they can be for either wrist or you might find you'd rather an anklet. They can be worn tight or loosely, depending on how you want them to fit and like rings they can be made from many different materials. Silver, gold, platinum, leather, or even twine. You can attach charms if you so wish or they can be made with stones or jewels. The key is to wear something that makes you feel good and represents you as an individual.

Necklaces, I won't repeater too much of what I have already said as far as what they would be made from or how to wear there. What I will say is that they can represent so many things, they can show you mood for the day, they can let those close to you know how you are feeling, they can represent more about you than other kinds of jewelry. In the end you do you.

Lastly…

Circlets, these are lovely and can be made from many things, fancy or simple in their look, for special occasions or everyday use. For these I recommend something that wont rust, heavy duty if you can, twine or chain work great for something you'd wear every day. They range from simple to elegant and can be used to top off your outfit (no pun intended) For instance my personal circlet was simple, metal, and coppery in color. It held no jewels but the way the lines of it flowed showed much to my personality and those who know me can tell you as much. Please do not rush in to getting the first one you see, think about it, sit on it, talk to people you trust and one you are firm in your decision and only then should you purchase or try to make one your self. The reward that comes from patience will be the best kind of reward.

There is so much more I could say and I will, but for now take this to heart and know that I do not wish to over whelm you with more knowledge. The path can be as quick or slow as you want it to be, so feel free to reach out to use with any questions that you might have.

Simple Pleasures

For Elves life does not need to be complicated, in fact a simple life is preferred. They love the simple pleasures, a soothing aromatic candle to tease the senses, a long bath filled with herbs and oils for relaxing, crystals to decorate their spaces with... wither it's due to their belief in crystal energy or due to how pretty it is.
